Commercial Diving
Commercial diving includes hull cleaning; prop, shaft and through hull inspection and cleaning; and zinc inspection, installation and/or replacement.
We also perform dock inspection and repair, and have salvaged boats sunken in their slip and up righted a catamaran that was capsized by a storm off of the Mendecino coast.
Why Is It Important To Keep Your Boat Clean?
Keeping the growth of algae and other organisms controlled can help your bottom paint last several months longer. The removal of growth improves the hydrodynamics of your boat, and, with the weight reduction, boosts your fuel efficiency. At the price of diesel and gas these days, it can make a big difference in your budget and in the performance of your boat.
Preserving your bottom paint not only extends the period of time between repainting and maintenance, it reduces the amount of cleaning that must occur before dry-dock work can begin, saving you even more time and money in the long run.
How Often Should You Clean The Hull On Your Boat?
For most boats a cleaning every 2-3 months is sufficient for maintaining bottom paint, controlling marine growth, and checking zincs. However, cleaning frequency differs for each vessel, depending on the quality and weathering of the bottom paint, and the harbor you're slipped in.
Cleaning costs start at $1.70 per foot depending the degree of cleaning needed. Give us a call for a free estimate.
What About Protection From Galvanic Corrosion?
Protecting your boat from corrosion is of utmost importance.
Corrosion can occur anytime two metals are immersed in saltwater because electrical current flows between them. Power lines connected to your boat while it’s in the slip increase the electrical current in the harbor, resulting in increased corrosion of metallic objects on your boat. This corrosion can be costly if it destroys metal parts such as props, struts or shafts.
Zincs must be exposed to seawater to protect your boat. Therefore, it is important that they are not covered with paint. It is also important to achieve a strong connection between the zinc and the metal that it’s protecting in order to maximize the effectiveness of the zincs.
Our experienced divers check the quality of the zinc anodes on every boat every time we clean the hull. If they are worn greater than 50% we replace them, relieving you of the burden of monitoring the zincs yourself, and keeping your boat in good condition.
The cost of installing the first zinc is $30 and $15 for each additional zinc with a $90.00 cap. The zincs themselves are priced based on size and type of zinc.
